I love a challenge and when the editor contacted me and asked if I would like to work with some Gypsophila I immediately said “Yes!” She explained about this great grower who would like to see what I could do with their flowers but, the truth is, it was never really a challenge! It was more something I’ve always wanted to do – so here is the result and I hope that you love it as much as I do.
I used:
Gypsophila ‘Cosmic’ – supplied by Danziger
Cymbidium ‘Hyzenthly’
Fritillaria persica
Floral tape
Steel wire
Décor wire – pink
Cardboard
Butterflies (artificial)
Organza ribbon
OASIS® Lady 1 bouquet holder
Pearl headed pins
Glue
Begin by cutting a circle of cardboard with a central hole that is just large enough to fit the handle of the OASIS® Lady 1 bouquet holder through it. Next cover the cardboard with the organza ribbon and glue in position. Fit the bouquet holder in place through the hole and then, on the underside, neatly insert the pearl headed pins in a circle next to the handle. Cut the Gypsophila to length and insert into the holder around the outer edge so that it conceals the cardboard ring leaving a gap at the lowest point. Graduate the stems of the Gypsophila upwards to create a nice, rounded base. Create the central trail by binding lengths of the flowers onto the steel wire using décor wire to secure. Once you have the desired length for your trail, insert the steel wire end into the holder and hook the end over the frame. Infill with more Gypsophila to graduate the shape – see photographs. Insert the stub wire into single heads of the Orchids, cover in floral tape and insert into the bouquet as desired to create a line, building to a fuller design in the center. Use this same technique to insert the Fritillaria. Finally, add the little butterflies to give a real feeling of summer ensuring that the chosen color is in harmony with the flowers and that you have worked them through the length of the bouquet. Finish by covering the handle in ribbon. I loved the editors challenge – I can’t wait for the next one because I really enjoyed working with the Gypsophila!
